Safe deposit boxes are only accessible during regular business hours, which is important to keep in mind when deciding what to put in a safe deposit box.
WHAT SHOULD GO IN A SAFE DEPOSIT BOX?
- Personal Paperwork (like birth or marriage certificates, deed to your home, etc.)
- Paper bonds or stock certificates
- Collectibles (like stamp or coin collections)
- Jewelry
WHAT SHOULD NOT GO IN A SAFE DEPOSIT BOX?
- Passports
- Medical Directives
- Original copy of will
- Cash (since safe deposit boxes are not covered by NCUA insurance)
